Now you can record 4:2:2 50 Mbps/sec. The Sony PMW-300 XDCAM is replacing the popular PMW-EX3, which came on the market over five years ago.
Like the EX3 the new Sony PMW-300 is based on a 1/2 inch 3CMOS block with full HD resolution. A well equipped hand-and semi-shoulder mount camera for broadcast and professional video, when the requirement is HD 50 Mbits / sec in MPEG HD 4:2:2 – equivalent to EBU standards. By comparison, the current model, PMW-EX3, only records 4:2:0 35 Mbit / sec.
Sony PMW-300 is equipped with the same EX-mount as the PMW-EX3, and the new camera fits into the same general range of 1/2 inch and 2/3 inch lenses. By default, Sony will deliver PMW-300 with either a 14x or 16x zoom, both of which have a focus ring for quick switching between auto and manual focus.
The viewfinder is a 3.5 inch LCD with 960 x 540 pixels resolution. The camera is also equipped with an 8-pin remote connector, and thanks to a multi-camera function can be used in 3D configurations.
On the output side, there are both HDMI and HD-SD/SDI so the camera can both deliver audio / video signals to equipment and professional workflows, with both timecode and genlock.
