Sony wants to own 4K

At Sony’s large-scale NAB press conference everyone was told about their intentions for 4k and the new supposedly efficient codecs. Not only that but they announced a host of future products …

– Sony will own 4K, said Alec Shapiro, head of Sony Professional Solutions in the United States. He substantiated Sony’s new slogan “Beyond Definition”. These included two new 4K monitors on the program and a lot of talk about the top model 4k camera, the F65 and Sony’s two new 4K intraframe codecs XAVC and XAVCS.

XAVCS is intended for the coming 4K amateur equipment, and XAVC covers the formatting palette, which you can choose when you work with Sony’s professional 4K products – but minus F65 camera that shoots raw.

Cinematographer Claudio Miranda and Alex Carr spoke about their experience with the Sony F65 during the filming of Tom Cruise’s new film, Oblivion. They were impressed by the sensitivity and the “look and feel” that can be created by using natural light.
